The Wedding at Cana

Our fifth and final stop for the day was Cana.  The bus dropped us off a couple of blocks away and we snaked our way through quaint narrow streets where children were playing, old grandpas sitting in the store fronts, and lots of interesting sites and sounds surrounded us everywhere we looked! ...It was almost like taking a step back in time!

Ancient vessels and presses used for making wine

Cana, a small city in Galilee was where Jesus performed His first miracle by turning the water into wine at a wedding feast (Jn 2:1, 11). For the Jewish people, wine always pointed to the joy that would be in Messiah's kingdom. The events are marked at the Wedding Church, built by the Franciscans in the nineteenth century over ruins believed to date to Jesus’ day.

Jesus also healed a nobleman's sick son in Cana (Jn 4:46-54). And, this was also the city of Nathaniel:  John 21:1-2 "After these things Jesus showed Himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, and in this way He showed Himself: Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together."

For our purposes, we gathered in the courtyard garden of the church in Cana and were invited to renew our wedding vows.  A familiar voice, Mark's father, read the traditional wedding vows that we had recited after him almost 25 years ago (August 31st) as we committed our lives to one another for the Lord's purposes.  It was very fitting to be able to renew and re-tell in Cana, in front of our children and other witnesses, the testimony of a vow - a promise to one another before God.  For better or worse - 'til death do us part!

And who could ask for more?  A wonderful day surrounded by those I love,  filled with visiting incredible sites around Israel: Megiddo, Caesarea, Mount Carmel, Mount Precipice, and Cana - and ending with a renewal of our love and commitment toward one another.

Well upon arriving at our hotel in Tiberias, I caught a beautiful and romantic sunset to just top it all off!

We were just making of list of such pretty wedding venues within the budget and after seeing this location I am quite impressed. No matter what, I will definitely be booking this place.
