We didn't want to just "see" the Sea of Galilee or get our feet wet near the Mount of Beatitudes. It wasn't enough to sail the sea in a Jesus boat either! We decided that we simply must be submerged and actually swim in the Sea of Galilee! We had come to Israel to take it all in!
We took off after a quick dinner and headed to the shore, only a short walk from our hotel. They were just closing the public beach and so we basically had to run around to the other entrance before they could shoo us away. We quickly waded into the lake. Did I say how absolutely freezing it was? Look at my face and notice that I am the ONLY crazy woman (save Anna Grace) in the water. The bottom was rocky and a bit difficult for the tender foot. There were just two or three other foreigners - looked to be Europeans by their lack of swim suits - taking the frigid plunge. After a brief shiver in the water and a plummeting core body temperature, we posed for a photo op or two and then quickly departed the lake. Hey - it was important to me to partake of ALL experiences, including swimming in the Sea of Galilee. I can say, "I did it!" and that is all that matters.
