Traveling to Cairo

Saying goodbye to Grandmother and Granddaddy, we are on our way to the airport!

And here we sit and wait and wait and wait!

Traveling is always nerve racking for me - especially when taking my precious children across the seas. There were many hurdles to overcome: ash clouds delaying flights, extra security measures to deter recent terrorist attempts, and hot summer storms which make long plane flights even bumpier. We arrived in Birmingham and passed through security with no problems. Whew! Then we had to wait and wait. Our flight out of Birmingham was delayed - twice. This caused us to miss all our connections in Atlanta and New York! Now the question was - how would we get to Cairo?

Delta managed to get us to Atlanta, and after many hours of uncertainty - they finally sent us to a hotel to wait until the following afternoon for a flight to Zurich Switzerland and then a connection to Cairo. This was not what we had hoped for. It meant missing the first 24 hours of our tour in Cairo - but at least they found a way to get us there.

All of the waiting and standing at the help desk and searching the Internet for other possibilities helped to calm my nerves. By the time we finally boarded the plane in Atlanta for our trip across the Atlantic - I was so ready to leave Atlanta - I hardly had time to fear. The Lord was in control. He knew the best timing for our departure and the best route for our group to take. We simply had to trust Him.
