Re-Routed Through Zurich, Switzerland
If one is going to miss one's first day of touring in Cairo - wouldn't it be nice to be sent to Zurich?
Well - it wasn't much of a "stay" in Switzerland, but at least we can say we were there! God was good to us and just as we were flying over Europe, the sun was rising. Graham saw Paris from his window seat - all lit up in lights. Eventually, we were all able to see the beautiful snow covered Alps peaking up through the clouds. With the warm glow of the rising sun in the background casting colorful light on beautiful mountainous scenes, quaint little villages with charming church steeples - it was just breathtaking. We all decided that out next trip needed to be to Switzerland. Want to come along?
We spent a couple of hours in the Zurich airport - looking at duty free chocolates, checking out Swatch watches, and catching up on lost sleep. Evan was particularly intrigued with the European Industrial design of the airport. To me, it just looked unfinished - like it was still under construction. Lots of concrete and linear lines. Evan had a fun "Evanesque" photo shoot which I am sure he will gladly share with you as you wish.
Sadly, the ash cloud did not keep us stranded in Zurich nearly as long as we would have liked. If you have to be stranded - I'd vote for Zurich over Atlanta, any day!
We eventually boarded a Swiss Air flight to Cairo and were on our way to join the rest of the group.
